FGCU Sigma Chi Chapter development progress and process.
In 2001, the Naples Sigma Chi Alumni formed a committee of Jason Barnes, Phil Buck, Dave Fisher and Bill Robinson to investigate the potential of a new Sigma Chi Chapter at FGCU.
At that time enrollment on this two-year-old campus was at about 2000 students. Now in 2005 enrollment is growing towards 7000 by the fall term. In 2003 after having made an extensive presentation to the previous and now head of the Greek process, we were advised to stand down while the program could be solidified and sororities be allowed to catch up with the then three Fraternities on campus. Kappa Alph Psi, KA and Sig Ep. (now suspended. This year (2004 PKA was admitted to proceed, beating out SAE. Next fall (2005) they will permit one more Fraternity to come on Campus.
The Naples Alumni Chapter began a fund for development in 2003 to assist and developing a chapter to get started and pledge their support. Very soon we will incubate a new Sigma Chi Alumni Association in Fort Myers that has been a part of the Naples group to establish a more central group in the FMY area for greater participation.
At the present time we have been advised to stand down and allow the new Sigma Chi HQ process to move forward. Due to our previous presentations and conversations with the current Greek Director, she contacted Sigma Chi HQ and invited them to consider FGCU. The committee at HQ met this week and is preparing the necessary paper work to FGCU to get on the interview selection list for the fall term nomination. We are to do nothing at this point except to gather our support and be ready when we get a green light to assist the process in the fall. Strong Alumni support is critical for the acceptance to FGCU.
When more details are released, we will forward the to you. Several of you have expressed interest in working on an advisory team for a potential chapter at FGCU and working with the new association Alumni group. Please respond with you interest to Wrobinson@naplessigs.com and we will set up some meeting to work in the background.
